The other day we got a flyer in the mail promoting a new church. The name escapes me but it wasn’t so much the name that got my attention but the people they quoted on the card. They had two quotes; one by A.W. Tozer and one by G.K. Chesterton, who are both some of the greatest theological minds that have ever lived. As some of you may know, G.K. Chesterton was the man who heavily influenced C.S. Lewis. After reading the card Christa and I went on the internet to check it out. From the outset things looked and seemed great, however, the more we researched we came to realize that this was nothing more than an Emergent Church. Some of you know what the Emergent Church is but for those of you who don’t they can be summed up in one quote, “they choose discussion over doctrine.” Their methods may be right, but their theology is off.
Several days after researching this church I was in Wal-Mart (and was wearing my shirt and tie that I wear to work every day) and was stopped twice by random customers asking me where things were located. Both times I told them, “I’m sorry I don’t work here.” After I got in the car and was on my way to work it hit me. Why did those people ask me where things were in Wal-Mart? It was because I looked like I was a manager of some sort and they figured I would know where things are. Sadly, I think this is true of our Christian world today. Things may “look right” on the outside but little do we know they are the farthest from the truth. Take the people that asked me where things were in Wal-Mart, I could have attempted to direct them in the right direction but I honestly didn’t know where anything was (if truth be known I myself was trying to find things). The same holds true for the Christian today. Many things can attempt to lead you in the right direction but they themselves don’t truly know the truth (because in all honestly they too are trying to find it).
Romans 16:17 and 18 talks about how it is important to be grounded in the Truth so we can discern between Truth and heresy. As time moves on the lines between truth and heresy are getting foggier and foggier. Now, more than ever, is a time when we truly need to dig into God’s word and truly KNOW the Truth. Don’t be miss led by someone one who “looks” like the Truth when they really aren’t. Remember, the devil comes as an angel of light…

the Black letters of God and the red letters of Jesus, that's all we ever need! Throw out all the blue letters including any crazy word, person or thing that contradicts God's HOLY Words!
As Oprah has been fooled about what she thinks religion is, let us not be tricked by Satan. We must always go straight to the word.
